for Offshore Blocks

The definition
of the basic requirements for the
environmental licensing of seismic
and drilling activities, in blocks
offered in Brasil Round 5, is available.
The objective of this work is to provide
basic information on the environmental
sensitivity of the Brazilian coastal
and offshore zones to seismic and
drilling activities, in order to aid
the environmental licensing process.
The cartographic
base is comprised of all the principal
information on the environmental resources
most susceptible to the actual and
potential impact of seismic and drilling,
and is based on the document “Evaluation
and Priority Actions for the Conservation
of the Biodiversity of the Coastal
and Offshore Zones” (MMA - Ministry
of the Environment - 2002). Integrated
maps are included, associated to a
general description, which identifies
the basic requirements for licensing
of activities in each block offered
in Brasil Round 5.
The “Base Maps”, together
with the requirements of the Terms
of Reference issued by IBAMA,
based on the environmental legislation
in force, will support the preparation
of Environmental Studies, and will
allow the planning by the companies
to be compatible with the environmental
sensitivity of each area to be licensed
and the deadline of the Exploration
Phase. The prior establishment of
the required scope is intended for
the implementation of pro-active measures
by the companies.
