Brasil Round 5 was held on August 19 and 20, 2003 in Rio de Janeiro. Of the 908 blocks offered, 101 were awarded to 6 companies, totaling an area 21,951 km2 conceded.

The total for the Signature Bonus reached R$27,448,493. For the Minimum Exploration Program, 21,951 Work Units were offered, allowing an estimated minimum investment of over R$ 350 million during the Exploration Phase.

Some important changes to the bidding system for exploratory blocks were implemented in Brasil Round 5. The documents that were published during this round remain available, such as the Final Tender Protocol, the Concession Contract and the Environmental Licensing Guidelines prepared by IBAMA.
